Menschen in Städten #27 – Dekonstruktionen

In dieser Sendung gehen wir in die Ausstellung in der Kunsthalle Exnergasse:

Eine Arbeit die das, was sie reflektiert, nicht los wird. Auseinandersetzungen über Kontinuitäten und Brüche kolonialer, faschistischer und nazistischer Praktiken in Österreich.

Wir sind bei der Dekonstruktion von Themen, die in ihrem Zusammenwirken einen Querschnitt der jetzigen Lage in Österreich bieten. Die Arbeiten nehmen migrantische Widerstandspraktiken genauso in den Blick wie die tendenziöse Denkmalgestaltung, und die Diskriminierung von Roma. Das Auftreten gegen rassistische Schmierereien, aber auch Graffiti als politische Aktion. Ein Archiv der Verfolgung und Diskriminierung, und eine Dekonstruktion der kolonialen Grundlagen Österreichs. Ein Film, der eine Frau zeigt, deren ganzes Leben von der meist aussichtslosen Suche nach Aufenthaltsgenehmigungen eingeschränkt war.

Die Ausstellung wurde von Eduard Freudmann, Can Gülcü, Ivan Jurica, Petja Dimitrova, und Lina Dokuzovic entwickelt und kuratiert.

Idemo parku! Mit Ivan Jurica sprechen wir in einem Park am Wiener Gürtel. Seine Arbeit 1989 – 2009: Look Back! Boys from Town Healing the Grief of Beautiful Girls zeigt Repräsentationen von Roma, und den Schlagersänger Karol Duchon und den Erfolg seiner Lieder. Die Songs wurden zu unterschiedlichen Zeiten wieder aufgekocht, zuletzt in den 90er Jahren, als der neue Staat Slowakei dringend kulturelle Identifikationen suchte.

In der Ausstellung waren Arbeiten von Petja Dimitrova, Ivan Jurica, Can Gülcü, Eduard Freudmann und Ivana Marjanovic, Lina Dokuzovic, Ljubomir Bratic/Richard Ferkl, Christian Gangl, Nina Höchtl, kegnschtelik – Jiddischer Widerstand 3,0, maiz, Marcel Malis, MigrafonA, Katharina Morawek, Plattform Geschichtspolitik, Recherchegruppe zu Schwarzer österreichischer Geschichte und Gegenwart/Pamoja, Marika Schmiedt zu sehen.

Zum Abspann spielen wir Miriam Makeba: Mama Ndiyalila. Die großartige Sängerin hat ihr Leben, ihre Karriere der Befreiung Südafrikas, und der ganzen Welt, vom unsäglichen Apartheid-Regime gewidmet.

Mit ihrer Musik protestieren Menschen in Städten gegen die Abschiebungen aus Österreich.

A Contention of Anti-Romaism in Europe

The film is a critical analysis of the interrelation of racism
(i.e. anti-Romaism) and capitalism in so called New Europe
(Europe after 1989) but also an analysis of strategies of resistance
to its necropolitical governance.

The starting point for the film was the brutal demolition and fencing
of a Roma slum next to “Belville”, a residential area erected to
accommodate guests of the international sports event “Universiade
Belgrade 2009”. In the same time Serbia was holding the annually
rotating presidency of the “Roma Decade”, an international initiative
that tends to represent an “unprecedented political commitment by
European governments to improve the socio-economic status and social
inclusion of Roma”. For that year, one would expect Serbia to make
serious efforts towards improving the discriminated position of Roma
and decreasing the effects of a policy of anti-Romaism that has lasted
for centuries in the region. The opposite was the case: What we
witnessed was the total disregard of the Decade’s objectives
and even an intensification of discrimination by Belgrade authorities,
citizens and media. Seen from the perspective of post-coloniality and
the history of racism, this event appears to be a paradigmatic case of
anti-Romaism in contemporary EUrope.
